I'll wait until the BluRay reviews pop out. The BluRay "Ghostbusters" is so bad it makes you search for your VHS copy as an improvement. If only it can be pretty much as good because the "American Werewolf..." package.

And why are there no details? If ever there has been a film i wished a Digital Copy of, it's this one. Also wondering why Amazon doesn't offer the only-disk extended version DVD (with that, who needs the theatrical release, in any case?).

The film is a classic (and all of you who're afraid to determine BB2000 should try it - it's terrific) but who needs a sloppy copy? Here's hoping...

`Inception' is a tough movie to evaluate. Basically, this can be a mind-bender, and as such must be judged by two criteria: How good of a mind-bender is it? And, How much does it create a realm of its own with phenomena and rules of causality that work consistently?

In my mind `Inception,' despite some derivative elements, is a creative movie that offers mind-enveloping reactions well after the viewing is over. Similar to Lynch's `Inland Empire' before it, the movie coalesces well into one's imagination and lingers inside the mind for days to come back.

Being brief with the tale is tricky, and i am sure by now you've probably digested a lot of material elsewhere. Washed up on an Asian seashore, American businessman, Cobb (Di Caprio) meets with an elderly leader to acquire a freelance and defeat his enemies. To achieve this, he offers to accomplish an "extraction," a method of obtaining secrets from a person`s subconscious during one's dream life. In the course of their negotiations, a full village riots and takes over the building where they meet, and Cobb and his sidekick, Arthur, (Gordon-Levitt) fight and flee to save lots of their lives....

In this beginning scene the lines are partially drawn between dreams and awakening, however the surrealistic landscape also provides Nolan ample opportunities to supply his trademark action-adventure for his science fiction saga.

Cobb later meets an old professor (Caine) who sagely links him to a prodigy student, Ariadne, (Page) who will help him together with his next assignment and help straighten out his perspective and correct use of inceptions, or the usage of subliminal persuasion, participating in another's subconscious perceptions and manipulating them during their dreams. Of their first assignment together, he plans to have a rich man's son and heir, Robert Fischer (Murphy) change his mind about his father's will, so he's going to be capable of either obtain or sabotage his inheritance.

There are dreams, and there are dreams within dreams, and considered one of Cobb's plans is to have three levels of dreaming taking place immediately to have the foremost persuasive power on Fisher.

Intertwined are revelations from Cobb's subconscious, revealed with Ariadne, who joins him on his subliminal journey and witnesses a number of his life-changing events along with his wife (Cotillard). In a partial revelation, Cobb admits he included his wife in a number of his dream work with complications that has created strife of their relationship.

As you may think, problems develop that make the operation work less neatly and simply as planned, so discerning what level of dreaming and what level of reality are happening also becomes blurred. The exposition and details are laid out more concretely than Lynch's worlds, however the caveats others have placed about being attentive are well founded.

Besides the mood of mind-benders like Lynch's `Mulholland Drive,' Nolan has borrowed and alchemized elements from inventive movies just like the truly excellent Japanese anime' adventure `Paprika' and flicks like 'The Cell,' however the results are truly new and effective.

I ought to admit my biases. i like mind-benders, and it's no accident that Christopher Nolan and David Lynch are on the top of my list of favorite directors. This creates a controversy because in the event you love mind-benders often, it's sometimes difficult to split effective works from folks that don't work besides.

I was originally wavering between four and five stars for this film in keeping with the ending. I'll give no details for that, but, I've decided, like 'Inland Empire' before it, `Inception' could appear abrupt, but its import as a surrealistic experience is sort of as mind-altering. 'Inception' deserves attention, awards, multiple viewings, and the time needed for a very rewarding film experience. In the event you love Lynch's work, you will likely also love 'Inception,' but you will concede this movie isn`t as effective at twiddling with your noodle. Nonetheless, in the event you find Lynch's films to be frustrating or too abstract, then Nolan's 'Inception' can give you a more satisfying sense of concreteness and closure overall.

(Tom Berenger and Ken Watanabe join a superb cast for a taut movie experience.)

(Some loose ends of `Inception' were tightened from information from imdb.)

Shots of planet earth, satellite photography, volcanoes, earthquakes, rainforest. Main message: earth is home to each person, let's preserve it. The gap and aerial photography are beautiful. Spectacular is the view of a lightning storm as seen from space. Footage of a hurricane, however, didn't appear threatening. Sheet metal flying off a small house's roof, a guy leaning into the wind.Things I expected to determine but didn't: a storm at sea, a twister, a pleasing volcano eruption, a geyser, a massive crowd of individuals. The sole people we see are two cosmonauts in orbit capturing, and a few guys cutting trees. The narration is very primitive, sometimes mind-numbingly so, as in any case, where the voice-over enumerates those to whom earth is home: "Earth is home to Jews and Arabs; It's home to Russians and the Chinese; It's home to Germans and Italians", etc and on, until (surprise!) "It truly is home to anyone".Some educational facts are given about what number of a whole bunch pollutants we emit and millions of acres of forest we destroy every year. These sound horrifying, but to make sense, they should be put into perspective (there are billions of bacteria in my mouth, but that does not mean I'm about to die). How much forest do natural fires destroy every year? What percentage acres of forest naturally grow back? How much deadly pollution does a regular active volcano emit? The 3D California valley fly-through was visually disappointing (have they heard of texture mapping?).Overall, an overly enjoyable experience. The DVD is unquestionably worth having, although I won't be watching it for a second time in full any time soon (as I watched Baraka).

INTO THE BLUE surprises. Despite a gap sequence that's frightening and grisly, this film starts with the sensation that it's another pretty people on the beach flick - mindless, but visually attractive 'what I did last summer at the waves' story. But stay tuned: it is a film of visual splendor and tense intrigue and action it is up there with the appropriate of them.

Amidst one of the most most spectacular underwater sea photography on record blooms a narrative of friends with polar priorities: Jared (Paul Walker) and Sam (Jessica Alba) live the straightforward life within the Bahamas, sport diving, in search of lost treasure ships as a hobby; visiting lawyer friend Bryce (Scott Caan) and his just-met current squeeze Amanda (Ashley Scott) have dubious pasts and are out for the fast buck regardless of the risks. This quartet spends the 1st element of the film diving and playing underwater with the wonderful sea life until the unexpected discovery of a submerged airplane (recall the outlet sequence) containing vast amounts of cocaine changes the playing board. Jared and Sam won't deal in drug trafficking while Bryce and Amanda are unable to withstand. Once this strident mark is hit the movie becomes a quick paced intrigue of excellent vs evil, crime, police corruption, all mixed with chase sequences both on land and underwater. Tragedies occur, priorities alter and the polarities among friends are tested.

Even if the tale of sunken treasure and drug trafficking weren't besides written as they're, this film will be worth the time spent just watching a few of the finest underwater choreography on a stage both fascinating and lovely and with a cast of lovely bodies in synch with the splendor. The forged is right and positively beyond even the attention-candy appeal of every of the actors. Peter Zuccarini's underwater cinematography deserves Oscar attention; Shane Hurlbut controls the above water cinematography well. But director John Stockwell is to be commended for the pacing of this edge-of-the-seat story - and that's saying an awful lot for a movie that's near two hours long! Yes there are chinks within the mortar of the tale and moments where the audience must suspend belief (just how long can Paul Walker hold his breath anyway?), but in due course this can be a film that deserves serious attention from the movie audience. It's better than you could expect! Grady Harp, December 05

I've read some negative reviews here complaining about this release because it isn't within the widescreen format and desired to explain why. This movie was originally released in 1939. Movies weren't shot within the widescreen format until the 1950s. Widescreen was a format utilized by Hollywood to combat a brand new kind of entertainment that they feared would put them into chapter 11...television. It's because television originally had the aspect ratio of four:3, as it matched the aspect ratio of flicks on the time. There has been a "fake" widescreen version of the Wizard of Oz released in 1955, however it wasn't true widescreen, how could or not it's because the master prints are within the 4:3 aspect ratio? MGM simply cut the highest and bottom of the image to slot a widescreen format. Fortunately, this version hasn't seen the sunshine of day since it's release in 1955.
Just desired to clear that up for folks wondering why there isn't any widescreen format.

I do hope you'll return and revise your rating to a '5' when you digest this knowledge:

Gone With the Wind was never released in a Widescreen version on DVD since it was never released in a Widescreen version on film. In truth, when it was released (1939), there have been NO "Widescreen" movies in any respect -- becaues nobody had yet considered formatting movies in that way.

Through the 1940s and into the 1950s, essentially ALL movies were within the 3:4 format that we now deliberate to be "regular". My understanding is that those proportions originally were adopted by the film industry to roughly correspond with the proportions of viewable area for the "live" theaters extant when the film industry started. Similarly, when television arrived within the late 40s/early 50s, its screen format was resolute by copying the three:4 screen proportions of movies made as much as that point. By the mid-1950s, the film industry became fascinated with losing its audience to TV, so various WIDESCREEN formats (CinemaScope was one; i feel there has been another called VistaVision; i will not remember the others offhand) were conceived by the film industry within the 1950s as a method by which the film industry could distinguish its film products from what could efficiently be shown on television screens. This was the film industry's try to keep audiences coming to theaters to determine their movies, as opposed to just waiting to determine movie productions on home televisions; by coming to the theater, the audience could experience something different that what television could offer.

Other "ideas" on this effort against TV included attempts to interest audiences in 3D films, in addition to enhancing film audio, both by greatly improving sound range and fidelity and later by adding stereo, at a time when TVs had just a single, inexpensive speaker that did not sound all that "hot." Essentially, the creation/addition of five.1 audio (Surround Sound) was a different film industry effort to differentiate itself from what then was available to be used in homes.

Anyway, if someone now desires to issue a "Widescreen" version of GWTW, the single method to do it (without distorting the content) will be to chop off the pinnacle and/or bottom of each frame right through -- just consider how that may look . . .

This was the film industry’s try to keep audiences coming to theaters to determine their movies, as opposed to just waiting to determine movie productions on home televisions; by coming to the theater, the audience could experience something different that what television could offer.

Other “ideas” on this effort against TV included attempts to interest audiences in 3D films, in addition to enhancing film audio, both by greatly improving sound range and fidelity and later by adding stereo, at a time when TVs had just a single, inexpensive speaker that did not sound all that “hot.” Essentially, the creation/addition of five.1 audio (Surround Sound) was a different film industry effort to differentiate itself from what then was available to be used in homes.

Anyway, if someone now desires to issue a “Widescreen” version of GWTW, the single method to do it (without distorting the content) will be to chop off the pinnacle and/or bottom of each frame right through — just consider how that may look . . .

having grown up with Sir David Attenborough's natural history programmes i used to be surprised to work out that Planet Earth slipped under my radar. So I ordered the set From Amazon within the UK in January knowing that it's going to work on my DVD player as it's region free. The set arrived but i did not have time to monitor it so it sat on a shelf until i discovered out the the invention Channel was going to air the series. I suddenly remembered I had the set and decided to observe slightly the set with my wife before the documentary aired later that night.

As we watched we both gasped with wonder at a few of the shots of the wildlife and the filming off some of the locations. We both watched the primary episode at the DVD after which eagerly awaited watching the others at the Discover Channel later that night.

We settled all the way down to watch the documentary and we both were in shock because the original narration by Sir David Attenborough have been replaced by Sigourney Weaver. Of course my wife couldn't watch the documentary because the narration was so bad - and she's American! So we went back to the DVDs.

We cannot understand why the invention Channel decided to switch Sir David Attenborough's narration with Sigourney Weaver but we both agree it was an extremely bad decision. We both like Sigourney, however she lacks any passion or warmth and looks to be speaking in a monotone voice. Exceptionally there is a spot where within the first episode a bird clears a place on a branch with a bit of debris from it's area so it will possibly attract a feminine and Sigourney says "missed a little" here she could show emotion she is solely so lifeless. Sir David's narration is different here and you may hear the keenness in his voice.

Speaking for myself, if I muted the sound so i could not hear the narration i'll instantly tell the this was a BBC production and Sir David Attenborough will be the narrator. So I'm disappointed that the invention Channel felt the necessity to use change the narration. I'm just glad that I actually have Sir David Attenborough's narration at the DVD as i think that this was the manner the documentary was speculated to sound.

...of your money!

Warner Bros ought to be ashamed of putting out one of these bare bones "special edition" and spreading it out over 2 discs (they easily may have fit these tiny "making of" episodes onto one disc.

The commentary track is filled with silence and the "making of" and "webisodes" are a couple of minutes a bit and don't go intensive nor do they go deep into the technical aspects of ways they made 300.
Such a lot of pointless low star ratings. i do not see how such a lot of people can talk rather a lot crap and "review" a product that they haven't even seen yet! Last I checked, the true release continues to be a number of months away. Sure, most of the people have read the inside track on what the box set will include. But honestly, until the set is truly released and truly watched, i believe there's little room for debate. Such a lot of people have said how bad the transfer could be and questioned if it's going to truly be HD. Yeah, they're really going to release one of several largest film franchises in history on Blu-ray without it being in HD. As for all you so-called "fans," i am not sure in case you remember, but if the movies were remastered back within the mid 90s and released on VHS, it was clearly said "this may be the last time to possess the unique versions," so i do not know why such a lot of individuals are surprised. True fans would appreciate the flicks for what they're and support the franchise. Basically, everyone quit your bitchin and talk your crap once you've actually SEEN the product!
